Dear Parents,

It is with great pleasure that we begin a new school year at CPE Kirchberg.

The start of each school year marks a new chapter: new children discover our environment, while others happily reunite with their friends and educators, and everyone gradually settles back into their routines and familiar surroundings. Behind this apparent routine lies a multitude of small moments that make life at the CPE so special: a game shared with others, a discovery, a conversation, a project carried out together, or simply the joy of being together.

At CPE Kirchberg, we want to offer children an environment where they can be themselves, find their place and develop at their own pace. Our approach to non-formal education allows us to build on their interests, curiosity and ideas, offering experiences that foster independence, creativity, self-confidence and the ability to live and grow together with others. 

Citizenship, Participation, Education: three words that also give meaning to the initials CPE. They reflect our commitment to helping children develop an understanding of respect for others, diversity, the rules of community life and the responsibility each person can take within the group. Our educational team is committed to making the CPE a welcoming, safe and stimulating place every day. Through their everyday experiences, children gradually learn to listen to others, express their ideas, make choices, find compromises and take an active part in community life.

This year we continue to place particular importance on our partnership with families. We firmly believe that children can be best supported in an atmosphere of trust, open communication and mutual respect. Your questions, observations and suggestions help us continuously improve our service and better respond to the needs of the children in our care.

A new year is therefore beginning, bringing with it new projects, discoveries and challenges and, we hope, many wonderful memories to create together.

CPE Kirchberg

Where to find us?

Both building of the CPE in Kirchberg (CPE-Ki) are located in Rue Albert Borschette and accommodate more than 1000 children.

"CPE1" Building
1, rue Albert Borschette

Children aged 3 to 4 who are not yet in school, children in nursery school and some groups of children in 1st primary are welcomed here.

"CPE3" Building
5, rue Albert Borschette

This building accommodates about 40 groups of primary school children and has a shared space for secondary school children.

General information on groups

The number of children per group is on average 12 in CPE1 and 16 in CPE3, depending on the size of the rooms. Each group of children is supervised by a qualified educator, whose mission is to respect the development and rhythm of each child in accordance with the guidelines defined in the pedagogical project.

The majority of the groups are unilingual (French-speaking, German-speaking, etc.) Some mixed groups are also set up to accommodate a maximum number of children. The allocation of the language group depends on the language section followed at the European School I, the availability of places as well as various organisational and educational elements which ensure a balance in the groups. Given the size of our structure and organisational constraints, it is not always possible to take into account the individual preferences of parents.

Arrival at the CPE

When they are at school, children attending

• nursery class are picked up directly in their classroom by the educators then they go together to the CPE premises.
• primary class are meeting their educator in the school yard after class.
• secondary class meet their educator alone at the meeting point immediatly after the end of school, according to the general schedule (excluding 'additional' courses).

During school holiday periods, children must be brought to the educator in charge of the group for the concerned period no later than 9:30 (for the beginning of the activities).

Homework

Our educators strive to create a quiet and focused environment to facilitate schoolwork. However, it is important to note that doing homework at the CPE is an option offered to children, not an obligation of our service. Educators provide occasional support when possible, but they do not replace the teacher’s role and cannot provide individualized follow-up for each student. In line with the school’s request, they do not correct homework, so that teachers and parents can identify any potential difficulties encountered by the child.

Please note that the amount of homework and the time required to complete it may vary depending on the language section chosen at the European School and the child’s age. In addition, many children take part in extracurricular activities. Therefore, it is not always possible to guarantee that all homework will be completed by the time children leave the CPE.

Finally, certain types of homework, such as those requiring the use of a computer, cannot be completed at the CPE. Similarly, the conditions on site do not always allow children to revise all of their lessons in full.

Catering

On short school days, when children have lunch with our educational team, they may choose between:

• A packed lunch (“tartiniste”), or
• A hot meal prepared by the catering service. Meals are prepared and invoiced by Sodexo (same service provider as at the ES). Weekly menus are available on Sodexo’s website:

All parents MUST register on the Sodexo website and indicate their child's meal type (hot meal/tartiniste). The choice can be made for the whole school year or by term and will also apply if the child attends the CPE during school holidays.

Any change in your child's weekly attendance will not affect the amount of parental contribution.

Activities

Several times a year the children will be able to enjoy an outdoor activity with their group (visit to a farm, museum, park, etc.) and discover places outside the CPE.

Shuttle

A shuttle service is set up for primary and secondary school pupils between the CPE and the bus platform of the European School 1.

The 'N CPE KI' bus runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays between Rue Albert Borschette (stop near our buildings) and the ES1 bus platforms to allow the children to join the parked bus that will drive them home.

The service is not offered on Fridays due to the activities organised by the CPE but also, and above all, in order to maintain exchanges between parents and the child’s educator.

The bus is accessible to all children registered with the CPE and with the ATSEEE services without any change in the CPE fee.

Nurses

At least one nurse is always on site at CPE-Ki. Every day, they provide appropriate care to children in the event of illness or accident while they are at the CPE. If they deem it necessary, they will contact the parents so that they can come and collect the child as soon as possible. In an emergency, they may take the child to the nearest hospital and inform the parents at the same time.
